Planning a wedding requires endless decision-making. And finding the perfect wedding gift for your groom can be challenging! Bride-to-be Ashley asked Koby and Terilyn of Archetype Studio Inc. to create something romantic and with a mix of sweet and edgy to gift to her groom…
Photographed on medium format film in a natural light blank studio space, we kept the scene simple and monochromatic to make the focus all about her. Every person is beautiful, and sometimes we come across someone that has a natural spark in front of the lens, Ashley is definitely one of those people. She was easily able to translate emotion through expression straight into the lens and I think that's something we all try to do, but it's usually a challenge.
My approach to boudoir photography is about romance and beauty. Great effort is put into the styling and planning process. I make each shoot a collaboration with the bride. It is important to have open and clear communication and it builds confidence knowing everyone is on the same page about the direction of the shoot. Discuss inspiration images and the mood you want to convey. Trust your instincts, a woman's intuition is often right!
To be able to show someone themselves in a way that will forever change her and give her confidence in herself is my power as a photographer. I believe the goal of most boudoir photographers is to create a positive, life-altering experience for each client that steps in front of their lens. If we can affect how a woman accepts and loves herself, that's a power worth having.
Our thanks to Koby and Terilyn for this gorgeous bridal boudoir and for sharing their vision and process with us. Learning to trust your instincts, both as a photographer and as a person, is an important step in gaining the confidence we all want for ourselves. We hope these images and this interview encourage you to follow your gut and trust that you know what is best for yourself!
