The start of September brings the end of summer break and the excitement of the fresh start of a new school year. This year, we took a little break leading into September to do some long term planning in order to strengthen and freshen our work at Boudoir Collective. We’re excited to be back at our desks this week, ready to jump into all the lovely fall submissions and share some exciting new BC features with you all!
Today, we’re thrilled to feature a gorgeous bohemian bridal boudoir by Ashley of AR Photography. She and her client put together a sweet and sexy session to give as a surprise wedding gift to her client’s new husband. Be sure to read all the way to the end -- we adore Ashley’s answer to our bonus question, which is always “what superhero power do you most desire and why?”
What inspired this boudoir session?
This session was put together by me and one of my brides for her future husband. When brides take boudoir photos they light up and they are their true selves. These images are meant for the one they love and will love for the rest of their lives. Kinsey is a true natural beauty. She and her fiancé Jon will be getting married in College Station, TX on a beautiful ranch. Her style is feminine bohemian. This session was soft, sweet, and sexy. Ethereal feminine details helped accentuate her flawless features. We are both lovers of color, so the natural light flooding the space with pops of green, yellows, reds, and pinks made it magical. Collaborating with Kinsey on posing and styling for this shoot made it that much more rewarding. And I think the photographs reflect that.
What was the most memorable moment from your shoot?
When Kinsey changed into her white outfit I had her sit on a wicker loveseat. I told her to look up right at me, into the camera. It was breathtaking. I told her she looked like a model and of course she started laughing. Women always laugh when they get compliments! Why is that!? I do it too. But then we both started laughing and had a great time throughout the whole shoot.
Tell us why the shoot took place in this location?
Soon as Kinsey told me she wanted to take boudoir photos as a surprise for Jon on the wedding day I knew exactly what location to use. My dad had built this beautiful sunroom extension onto my grandmas house. Its full of natural light and beautiful plants, truly a blank slate. Not much was needed to create the perfect backdrop for this gorgeous bride. A sheep skin, white iron chair, some flowers, tulle, and we were good to go! Kinsey truly lit up the room. We are both lovers of color, so the natural light flooding the space with pops of green, yellows, reds, and pinks made it magical.
What is your approach to boudoir photography?
My goal with boudoir photography is to bring out the inner beauty in women. To illuminate their best qualities with soft feminine touches. I use boudoir photography as a way to make women feel more than comfortable in their bodies but stunning in their own skin.
What challenges have you faced as an artist?
As an artist I am always challenging myself to develop my style of photography. To fine tune my vision for my work. In my opinion it is a crime to not challenge oneself.
What advice would you give someone considering a boudoir session?
When considering a boudoir session, do not think you need to be a Victoria’s Secret model. You don't need extravagant lingerie. Be yourself. Feel comfortable in what you're wearing, if that means it’s a t-shirt with knee high socks then wear that! If it is a sexy corset then embrace it. No matter what embrace yourself.
Outside of photography, what other sources do you draw inspiration from?
I draw inspiration from landscapes, horses, painting and drawing, my family, friends, and past experiences.
And our bonus question: We want to know, what superhero power do you most desire and why?
The power to heal people. I am not the only person who has lost someone to illness, every person in the world has. In a perfect universe no one would have to die from cancer, we would all float away laying in bed next to the love of our lives.
