As a new year starts, we feel anxious to put the festive season behind us and focus on simplicity. Some of you may be feeling the same pull toward quiet and solitude. Beach sessions offer not only some of the most gorgeous scenery for a boudoir, but they also provide a place to escape into the quiet many of us look forward to in this new season. Today we’re happy to share a rainy beach boudoir by Roots of Life Photography that captures the solitude so well...
One of my brides, Tori, wanted to do a boudoir session on the beach but it wound up raining the entire time. We decided to make it work and it turned out better than I could have expected. Glencoe Beach, in the North Shore area of Chicago, was a perfect backdrop for the shoot. It has a classic feel with the large stones making up the archway and staircase but also has a tropical vibe with all the plant life.
Once the rain started falling harder and harder we all had a rush of anxiety. The temperature plummeted and I was worried about my gear getting soaked. Our model Tori was anxious about the stairs but we all made a team decision to keep going. Joanna, our awesome makeup artist, held an umbrella over me while I shot and we just kept shooting through the rain. The water added a more moody element than we had originally anticipated, which I think took the shoot to that next level.
I want my boudoir subjects to feel comfortable & confident in front of my lens. Boudoir is a very intimate and sensitive experience and something I approach with tender loving care. It requires bravery and boldness to reveal those authentic parts of oneself, both internally and externally. Despite all this, I want my clients to have FUN and embrace how beautiful they are. Natural posing, detailed photographs and interesting perspectives help tell her unique story.
