Kira of Oh Betty Boudoir submitted this playful boho boudoir which is the perfect encapsulation of everything gorgeous about summer. The lush green grass, a huge old porch and the warmth of twilight -- we feel totally transported to North Carolina! Kira thoughtfully sent the story behind this session, which we’re excited to share with you today...
I am determined to do a shoot that is primarily for my creative exploration at least a few times a year. I wanted to create a shoot that was completely outside and I wanted to show women that a beautiful shoot could be done without all the fancy bedding, furniture and high-end lingerie. My model and I worked together to create a boho inspired look. I created a pinterest board of photos I liked and shared it with my model. She then went out to thrift shops to find her attire.
For almost a year I drove past this old victorian home and I imagined all the photos I could take around it. I was in love with this house from the moment I saw it. The field is one I have used often for portrait shoots, but I couldn't stop imagining a boudoir shoot taking place there. I kept seeing in mind a woman running happy and free through the fields surrounding the house. Plus the light is so gorgeous this time of year. I purposely shot right into the sun so the photos would have that glowing, boho vibe I wanted.
The second part of the shoot was supposed to take place in tall grass, when we arrived to the location, we realized the grass had been cut down. We looked toward to front of the field and noticed tiny yellow flowers. My most memorable moment from this session was laughing so hysterically because I couldn't figure out why my model was having issues sitting in the flowers. It turns out the flowers had bugs all over them and instead of telling me, she was carefully tip-toeing around them.
I draw inspiration from women. I am continually inspired by the stories women share with me. They inspire me to create an experience that is like no other. Ashley (my makeup artist and model) has her own amazing story of strength. I love this session and I love her in front of my camera!
