It’s hard to believe it’s been a little over a month since our first workshop, La Femme! Our hearts are still settling in from the experience. As we put this recap together, paragraphs have been written and rewritten many times. It’s a challenge finding the perfect combination of words to eloquently describe what it feels like to see a dream come to fruition. Because that is truly what La Femme was, a dream realized.
After many months of planning, marketing, late night calls and emails - La Femme Day 1 was finally here! With indescribable anticipation and excitement, Hannah and I boarded our respective planes and arrived in sunny Texas. We were eager to greet our amazing attendees and each other - Yep! La Femme was the first time we were meeting in person! Finally getting to hug my Boudoir Collective partner was long overdue and on such a monumental occasion, it was surreal. This was it. La Femme was happening!
We sat down to a delicious meal with our speakers and attendees! Being surrounded by women we had looked up to for years felt like a fairytale. Despite the exhaustion from overwhelming emotions, a busy travel day, and the many things left to do - it was perfect.
After traveling back to our adorable AirBnB, we enjoyed some wine with the girls and went off to prep our Welcome Gifts for the next day and settled in around midnight with sore feet and grateful hearts.
The next day dawned early in our room. We prepped breakfast for our speakers and attendees and headed off to set up the room for our first full day of learning. We are forever grateful to sweet Marissa at The White Sparrow for helping us arrange the room and ensure everything would be perfect! The barn is such a clean and light-filled venue it really didn’t need much extra. Simplicity shines bright there! After a busy early-morning, we welcomed 8 lovely women to La Femme and our hearts were bursting with excitement and gratitude.
The next few hours were filled with industry talks from Lauren Kurc, Thomas Lucas, and Kayla Barker. Hearing them pour their hearts into their presentations brought tears to our eyes. We were giddy, overjoyed, and still in complete awe that La Femme was finally happening! Glancing around the room and seeing all of these amazing people come together to grow, learn, teach and bring light to the boudoir community is forever one of our favorite memories.
The second-half of the day was dedicated to two incredible editorials that we designed together with Miranda of MIRA Events + Design who styled them to perfection. As photographers, we were SO excited for this portion of the day and couldn’t wait to be by our attendees’ side and play with cameras, photograph pretty things, and talk shop! We’ll be honest, the logistics of the group breakouts became a little chaotic! We are grateful for leaders like Kayla, Lauren, and Katherine that quickly stepped in and helped to reorganize the flow.
The evening ended with a PJ pizza-party and lots of heart-talk. After an end-of-day regroup with our speakers, we made some fast changes to the logistics of the editorials for the next day and were excited for the new layout and the individual shooting time this will allow our sweet attendees.
Thursday dawned way too quickly and the final day of La Femme was here. We started the day by taking beautiful headshots of our attendees on film. After the headshots, we were so excited because it was finally our chance to give our own presentation at the workshop on our roles and what we look for as an editorial publication. We then sat down and got the opportunity to listen to Katherine and Miranda. Finally, we had all the speakers come together for a panel discussion to talk about whatever the attendees had on their hearts. We laughed. And some of us even cried.
And then came the editorial portion of the day with a new streamlined system that allowed each attendee personal time at each of the styled vignettes, and hands-on training by our guest photographers. At the end of it all, we were so excited to have everyone gather in front of the breathtaking barn doors for a group picture with all these women (and a couple men) that we had grown to love on a deep and personal level! We hugged too much, gave one too many baby kisses, and closed the night with local BBQ and whisky.
There were a fair share of unforeseens but despite the setbacks, over these three days we realized what it was all about. This last dinner with our sweet attendees and seeing them brim with joy and excitement - full of passion and anticipation for what was to come in their businesses - that’s all that truly mattered. Not the carefully curated decorations that never made it, or the plans that fell through, but this. The conversations, the full hearts, the love, the community.
We’ll never forget this maiden voyage of La Femme! We’ll never forget seeing one of our incredibly generous attendees beautifully share her talents and guide some of the other girls through film. #CommunityOverCompetition live and in living color! We’ll never forget that feeling of overwhelming gratefulness as we watched our speakers pour into our attendees. You have the biggest servant-hearts and we admire you all so dearly! But most importantly, we’ll never forget YOU - Laura, Dotti, Elizabeth, Indy, Joel, Amanda S, Amanda H, Courtney, Shawn and Taylor our amazing attendees. We are so, so glad you made up our first La Femme. Thank you for investing so much of yourselves in this experience - we can’t wait to cheer you on!
Last, and certainly not least, we owe a HUGE thanks to our amazing volunteers! We could NOT have done this without you!
Katie, our incredibly talented hair & makeup artist. You executed our exact visions for each of the beautiful models we brought on. It was a full time job, and we know that you were one of the biggest reasons the styled shoots were as beautiful and successful as they were.
Lucy, your amazing talent in capturing the behind-the-scenes action of La Femme, coming to both days to document the wonder in our attendees, and the expressive talks of our speakers, and being so kind as to take OUR (Boudoir Collective) first photo together! Your beautiful style and prompt turnaround were a godsend for us.
Peyton, the extremely gifted videographer. You were everywhere you needed to be, yet nobody noticed you. Capturing the fun of playing with pretty light and getting videographic evidence of the teamwork and true mentorship that happened during the styled sessions, you couldn’t have been more perfect to capture this event!
We are still on a high from the excitement of knowing that this thing, this dream and passion project of ours, finally happened, and that we were able to touch the lives of so many beautiful souls. We can’t wait to see what future La Femmes look like, but for now, we are reminiscing through these beautiful photos from our speakers & of course Lucy! Here are a few more of our favorite behind the scenes looks that she captured for us!
