In order to create beautiful, intimate, and real images, everyone that's a part of the boudoir session needs to feel comfortable. As a photographer, how do you make your client feel relaxed in front of your camera? And as the subject, how can you feel more comfortable in front of the photographers lens?
As mentioned before (see my column on what to pack for a fall outdoor boudoir session), preparation is key for a successful boudoir session. When possible, do not only write e-mails but talk to your client or photographer on the phone, or even meet in person before booking your shoot. Conversations about the next vacation, family or favorite books, will help take off the pressure and connect you on a personal level. Make sure that both of you are the perfect fit as client and photographer. This will ensure a smooth and relaxed shoot for all!
As a photographer, don't forget to ask your client why she is booking a boudoir shoot. Is it a holiday gift for her husband? a reminder for herself about how beautiful she is after the birth of a child? or just because she wants to feel sexy & confident every once in a while? Knowing the real reason behind the session ensures a great experience for the client and the photographer.
As a boudoir client, it is essential that you bring the best lingerie for the shoot. Talk with your photographer about your preferences. Personally, I love to show my boudoir clients my boudoir inspiration Pinterest board or I create an individual moodboard for their shoot. Furthermore, I love to send my clients online shopping links with lingerie to purchase for the day (don't be shy and let your photographer know your size!). Plus, shopping for the shoot makes you positively excited! My favorite online shops for lingerie are ASOS and Zalando.
Another way to make your boudoir client feel great during the shoot is to hire a makeup artist. Getting hair & makeup done before the boudoir session will relax you, as a client, and gives you and the photographer more time to talk during styling. Moreover, it helps to give you an extra confidence boost in front of the camera. Photographers, make sure to hire a makeup artist who fits your brand feeling very well.
