Comparison is the thief of joy.
I’m sure most of us have seen this quote as we scroll through Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest. I know that I’ve seen it enough times that it has lost the punch it had the first time it came through my feed. But today we want to introduce you to a photographer who uses it as her mantra, refusing to waste time comparing that she could be using creating images that capture the heart of her subject.
Christin of Christin Olive Photography believes that boudoir sessions should serve as an escape, letting the emotion that a client is feeling fuel the session. Some clients are flirty and daring while others are a little more shy, and she hopes each and every type of woman feels like she can be who she is while they’re together. She wants her sessions to help women celebrate themselves instead of trying to look or be like other women, and she believes that attitude starts with her. She shared:
In a world fueled by imagery and social media, it's very hard not to compare your work to others. I think feeling like you have to be "on trend" or doing what everyone else is doing to be successful. It is true what they say, comparison is the thief of joy. That is why I love the people I work with, they believe in my vision that I have created, and mixed with their willingness to be open, we can create beautiful images.
Thank you to Christin for sharing her boudoir philosophy with us. We hope that Boudoir Collective can be a gathering place for support and encouragement in the boudoir community. As we scroll through our social media feeds today, let’s turn competition into collaboration and reach out to someone whose work we envy and admire!
