Attending a workshop is not only a great way to learn from the best of the best in the business, it can also serve as a much needed breath of fresh air for your art. It can be a refresher course in styling, teach you tips and tricks for posing models and give you amazing new contacts in the photography world. Peyton Kempf from 1778 Photographie shared her recent experience from the gorgeous Mélange Workshop:
Ahh, yes, where to begin… when I heard about the Mélange Workshop I knew it would be a great opportunity to learn more about how to shoot film. And most importantly, an opportunity to meet and work together with wonderful fellow photographers. The chance to work alongside and learn from other photographers at an all women’s photography workshop was too good to pass up.
The boudoir session was definitely the icing on the cake at the workshop. I find I approach boudoir photography with an aesthetic eye along with grace and joy. We all see beauty differently – and when it comes to photographing a woman in this beautiful genre I look to find what is fascinating and alluring beyond the physical. I aspire to capture the veiled meaning in a woman’s gaze or focus on the laughter from a shy smile. I want the boudoir session to be a joyful experience of telling a romantic story through imagery.
Mackenzie, our model, is not only gorgeous, she is amazing as well – as a cold front had just blown in and it was probably about 28 degrees out (that's cold for Texas)! “Oh you want me to stand outside in my bra and knickers – no problem!” She rocked it and you can tell by looking at the images that she has grace and an ethereal glow that shines from her and it’s not because it was below freezing!
The most memorable moment from the styled session was the laughter! We were all so happy and excited to be shooting this sweet beautiful model that was styled by such wonderful talent. It may have been freezing cold outside, but I remember smiling and laughing. Just enjoying the moment with amazing women.
Does Peyton’s experience at this workshop make you want to attend a workshop of your own? There are so many options out there! We’d love to hear from anyone who has had an especially meaningful experience attending a workshop.
