Every person in the world can relate to the feeling of longing. Longing for a person, a place, or a different time in our life. Even though it is a completely human emotion that connects us all, it is something that is difficult to embrace. It is something most of us are uncomfortable with. We don’t allow ourselves to spend time feeling wistfulness, sadness, or regret. Instead we spend our time trying to distract ourselves to forget whatever it is we’re longing for.
This boudoir was conceived as a body study, dedicated to capturing the whole essence the model through a focus on each part of her body. As photographer Denice Lachapelle began to shoot, she immediately connected with Kelly’s eyes, and a sense of yearning within her. Denice shared, “I asked her to think of her desires and embrace them softly. Whether those desires were about love or pain provoking longings, I asked her to slowly move to them as she felt them. It was beautiful.”
We love the idea that boudoir can be an experience in accepting not only any body parts that we are uncomfortable with, but also that it can help us work through difficult emotions. We hope that boudoir can serve as a path to more acceptance of yourself and others. As you work through these photos, we invite you to spend time thinking about your own longings and the effect they have on your life.
