Friday mornings are usually the time we spend sorting through all the amazing submissions we’ve received that week. It’s exciting to have a whole folder of images waiting for us when we start the process, and even more exciting when we open up a boudoir that we know has to have a place on our editorial calendar as soon as possible! Kat Gill of Katch Studios has sent us two of those type of submissions recently. We’re excited to share the first of them with you today.
What inspired this boudoir session?
It was the new space I was using for this year. The extra challenge was that I won't be having a bed set up in this studio so I wanted to figure out how that would work and if I'd still be able to get a good range of boudoir photos in a room with no bed. I like my photos to bring out each woman's unique beauty in an effortless-looking way. I want my shoots to look soft, romantic and timeless.
What challenges have you faced as an artist?
It's always an effort to stay inspired and excited creatively. I find that doing styled shoots really helps because it gives me a chance to come up with ideas that I'm passionate about and I'm able to shoot without feeling like I need to please anyone but myself. Without these shoots, sometimes it's very easy to keep going down the same path and losing your passion.
What advice would you give someone considering a boudoir session?
Relax, have fun, and listen to your photographer. We're there to guide you through it every step of the way, and all you have to do is make sure you're not too "in your head" with nerves.
Outside of photography, what other sources do you draw inspiration from?
I feel strongly influenced by both music and fashion. I've also become moderately obsessed with beautiful filmography. If a TV show, for example, has a beautiful intro, usually with both imagery and music, I'll watch it over and over.
Thanks, Kat, for letting us into your thought process and sharing your inspirations and challenges with us. We appreciate your honesty and insight into your boudoir process!
