From the Photographer:
We are an all girl fine art photography duo and we find the female form incredibly inspiring and beautiful. Our mission with this shoot was to challenge ourselves creatively and to produce some beautiful fine art images, but also to open ourselves up to the vulnerabilities and possible awkwardness of shooting boudoir for the first time. As well as being incredibly excited by the opportunities that boudoir offers, we were a little nervous about guiding the session and posing a naked form. As photographers working in the age of selfies and social media profiles, we are often challenged by the discrepancy between how people look and how they imagine and portray themselves. A big part of what we do involves negotiating, as respectfully as we can, peoples vulnerabilities and insecurities. With a boudoir session everything is laid bare. This shoot was one of the most intimate collaborations we have experienced with a sitter. Our understanding of our role as photographers of boudoir is to interpret and capture a persons sense of their own sexuality. We wanted to create a safe space for our sitter to express herself and to have fun. To feel completely in control of how her body was being represented but also to be surprised and delighted to see herself captured through somebody else eyes. We are constantly bombarded by overly sexualised and voyeuristic images of naked or near-naked women. To have our muse share her most intimate self with us in a way that was empowering and self-affirming was a really amazing experience for us as artists and as women. Together we devised an approach for the session that centered around the beauty and sexiness of nakedness that is partially revealed or implied. We wanted to create images of the female form that were not gratuitous or explicit, but soft and personal and beguiling.
