From the photographer:
As I was planning this session with Stephanie, we began the process with a phone call consultation to discuss her ideas and hopes for the session. Stephanie is the kind of person who is always there for the other people in her life (her friends, her coworkers, the tennis students she coaches), but she doesn't give herself many opportunities to step back and celebrate herself. She saw this session as an opportunity for her to see herself in a new light and to appreciate and love herself.
With that in mind, we planned her session to have a stunning, elegant, sexy style that would celebrate her body and also capture her incredible spirit. She works at an incredible local lingerie shop and has a stunning lingerie collection - she chose a great mix of sultry and beautiful pieces to bring out her style.
My stylist for this session, Kelsey Schwartz, has an incredible philosophy and always tells my clients, “This is not a makeover! You are beautiful as you are; this is just a way to be pampered and feel like the most polished version of yourself.” For this session, Stephanie wanted to feel sexy and beautiful but not overly done-up, which is a perfect balance. Kelsey styled her makeup with a beautiful, natural style overall while adding some flair to her eyes, and gave her hair epic, sexy-soft waves.
During the session, we took advantage of the beautiful natural light in my studio to create a warm, elegant feeling to the portraits, and combined that with posing that mixed soulful portraits, stunning details, and captured moments that feel both sexy and effortless.
When Stephanie saw her portraits, she was literally speechless. She said that it felt so weird and unusual to see herself from a totally different perspective, and her initial reaction was to seek out flaws in the pictures and pick herself apart. But after a few minutes of looking at the pictures, something amazing changed.
She started seeing herself in a different light, and began to feel more comfortable with herself and the way her body and personality came through in the portraits. By the time she left, she was absolutely glowing and in love with how she looked in her portraits.
This is one of my favorite things about boudoir portrait sessions - as women, we can easily get used to critiquing ourselves and viewing ourselves through a negative light. Boudoir portraits can be an incredible way to take a step back, see yourself in a new light, and bask in how beautiful you are inside and out.
